MY ROLE
I was responsible for the UI/UX of this tool. The project began with many sketches that turned into rough user flows that were rapidly improved upon. From there, many pages of sketching and fast conceptualizing using our design system to land on the stronger concepts that ultimately lead to the final design.
CHALLENGE
Staying focused on keeping the features down to the needs expressed by current customers. This was important to communicate the importance to stakeholders to design for the main use case and not try to please every type of user that would lead to pleasing no one.
Design Process
A vital part of my design process is to create user flows like this one. It not only lays the foundation for the end-to-end journey, but it allows me to get a bird's eye view of the workflow.
It is here, where I will often brainstorm too. Where can I remove friction? How can I merge steps? etc.
Design System & Early Exploration
Using our extensive design library, I am able to quickly throw together a large and messy Sketch file to explore initial ideas.
I find exploring with a design system versus low-fi wire framing to be advantageous. For one, it allows me to rapidly explore many ideas, very quickly, allowing me to avoid the Availability Bias that can blur judgement. It also assists with communicating with teams outside of design. I find it allows my team to visualize ideas and get the conversation going.
